ABOUT The International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC-IIUM) is an Islamic research institute dedicated to conducting advanced-level study and research on Islamic thought and civilisation at both national and global levels. It’s located at Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur, is a branch of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and a renowned postgraduate research institute established in 1987. ISTAC is committed to becoming a beacon of excellence in Islamic studies with the mission to nurture a breed of dedicated scholars, who are multi- disciplinary and exemplify sound knowledge, wisdom, and virtues of Islamic civilisation and its worldview for the benefit of the ummah and humanity. It strives to be a leading center for Islamic learning, focusing on nurturing scholars who embody the knowledge and virtues of Islamic civilization. This mission supports the institute's vision of becoming a global hub for Islamic research and community engagement. ​The primary goal of ISTAC is to nurture comparative, cultural, and civilisational studies devoted to the renewal of Islam and human civilisation. Its plays a crucial role in Islamic studies academic and cultural landscape in Malaysia and internationally. The institute actively engages in community outreach and public advocacy by organizing lectures, seminars, and workshops on issues like violent extremism and Islam's role in modern society. It also publishes scholarly materials, particularly the Al-Shajarah journal, focusing on Islamic thought and civilization. Additionally, the center offers postgraduate programs, such as the PhD and Master of Arts in Islamic Thought and Civilization, preparing students for careers in academia, research, and civil service. ISTAC continues to stand out with its commitment to renewing Islamic thought, its beautiful Islamic architecture, and its holistic approach to education and community engagement.
