48 49 EMERITUS PROFESSOR BIOGRAPHY OF PROF. DATO’ TPR. DR. MANSOR IBRAHIM Professor Dato’ TPr. Dr. Mansor Ibrahim was born on the 3rd of April 1950, in Jenun, Kedah. He is married with three children. The order of Ahli Mahkota Kedah (AMK) was conferred on him by His Highness Sultan of Kedah in the year 1999, while the order of Dato’ Setia Diraja Kedah (D.S.D.K) was conferred in 2011 for his excellent service to the State and Nation, professional and academic performances. He is currently a lifetime Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Planner (MIP). He read his Ph.D. in (Land Resources) and Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning (URPL) at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, USA (1982-1986). He was the pioneer batch of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (1970-1974) and continued his formal education at the University of Auckland, New Zealand (1975-1977) and later, at the University College of London (1980). His academic services at the International Islamic University Malaysia began in April 2003 up until his second formal retirement on the 21st of July 2022. Professor. Dato’ TPr. Dr. Mansor Ibrahim joined IIUM, as a professor in the Urban and Regional PlanningDepartment at the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design. In his more than 20 years of service, he held various administrative positions at the Kulliyyah and the University. He was the head of the department for a year, prior to being appointed to the Deanship from 2003 to 2010. At the Kulliyyah level, he was a member of Kulliyyah Academic and Research and Postgraduate Boards, Academic Staff Promotion and Examination Committees. Professor Dato’ Mansor has also been a member of the Senate and Deans’ Council at the university level. During his tenure as a leading academician, he chaired the Dean Council for Built Environment School of IPTAs (2009 – 2011). He was a member of various Board of Studies (UM, UTM and USM), Chairman of Malaysian Institute of Planners’ (MIP) Accreditation Panel, Committee Member for MIP-JPBD Commonwealth Association of Planning Conference, Member of Sub-Committee for Training and Education Fund for Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia (Malaysian Professional Centre), Committee Member Partnering Universities and the Institute of Surveyor Malaysia. At the Kedah State level, he was a Panel Member for “Wacana Kedah Maju 2010” (Office of Kedah State Secretary) and moderated the International Islamic Tourism Conference and Travel Mart (ITCM) 2010. His research and consulting experiences cover over 300 topics, with more than 400 conference papers, books, book chapters and manuscripts published. Appointed by IIUM RMC, he chaired the Organizing Committee of the IIUM Research, Invention and Innovation Exhibition 2011 (IRIIE 2011), made a member of Panel Assessors of IRPA projects and a member of Steering Committee of the IIUM Research, Invention and Innovation Exhibition 2011 (IRIIE 2011). He also reviewed various applications for PRGS and FRGS (2017-2018). He has been the editor-in-chief for Design Idea Journal (2017 until 2019) and the Planning Malaysia Journal of the Malaysian Institute of Planners (2009 until present). He is an editor of Habitat International, Journal of Techno-social, University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (since 2008), the International Advisor of Journal of Design and Built Environment, University Malaya (since 2009) and International Journal of Built Environment and Sustainability (UTM, 2017-2018). An active member of KAED Universal Design Unit (KUDU), Prof. Dato’ Mansor Ibrahim was instrumental in many universal design initiatives by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, as well as various Local Planning Authorities. He has been a vice president and council member of the Malaysian Institute of Planners since 2000. He is a registered EIA consultant (DOE I 00036), EIA consultant (NREB, Sarawak), SIA Malaysia and a member of Malaysia Nature Society. In his professional capacity, he was assigned to advise the designs of housing projects of 100 units of low-cost houses for the poor in Kota Baru, Kelantan (Yayasan Haji Zainuddin, 2008) and appointed as a memberof theOrganizingCommitteeofSeminar Pembangunan Hartanah Menurut Perspektif Islam at the Institut Kefahaman Islam (IKIM). On the international front, he is an affiliate member of the International Association of Impact Assessment, the United Nations Environment Programme, International Environmental Technical Centre (Osaka, Japan), the EIA/ EHIA Network (World Health Organisation), the Board of Town Planners and member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). He has supervised, internally and externally assessed more than 150 postgraduate theses. He was instrumental in the establishments of the Centre for Built Environment, KAED (2003), academic programmes of MSc. and Ph.D. in Built Environment, IIUM (2001), Master of Urban and Regional Planning, IIUM (2001), Master of Urban Design, IIUM (2002) and Master of Science Building Technology Engineering, IIUM (2003). He had a leading role in the creation of Master of Science in Asset and Facilities Management, KAED (2010) and Master of Science in Quantity Surveying, KAED (2010). He pioneered the Board of Studies, Tourism Planning and Development Programme of Kulliyyah of Languages and Management (KLM), IIUM, having developed the programme from its infancy (proposed under URP now offered under KLM, 2011). His roles in the development of the International Islamic University Indonesia (2004), the Centre of Excellence Labuan (2004), the Concept Plan of New Campus University College INSANIAH, Kedah (2008) have also been recognised internationally.
