12 34th IIUM Convocation Ceremony Majlis Konvokesyen IIUM ke-34 the Pertandingan Debat Terbuka Astar when the two teams sent became the Champion of the junior and the senior categories. IIUM have also won the MCMC Debating Championship in 2018. IIUM Malay debaters were also selected to represent Malaysia in the Pertandingan Debat Siswa 2016 and 2018 which was organized by Radio Televisyen Malaysia and Radio Televisyen Brunei. The IIUMArabic debaters achieved an amazing feat in 2017 when they reached the Grand Final of the Open Category at the International Universities Arabic Debating Championship at Doha, Qatar making them the first non-native speakers’ team to ever do so. They also became the Champion of the IIUM International Arabic Debate Open in 2017 and the Grand Finalist of the 2018’s edition. They have also received much other recognition in debate, public speaking, Qur’anic memorization, recitation and tajwid at local and international competitions. IIUM students have exhibited excellence in public speaking activities. IIUM students have been continuously selected to represent Malaysia in the prestigious Pidato Antarabangsa Bahasa Melayu. IIUM students have become the Champions of several public speaking competitions such as Pertandingan Pidato Kewangan (2017), Pertandingan Pidato 1 Malaysia Peringkat Negeri Selangor (2017), Pidato Legasi Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (2017), Pertandingan Pidato ASEAN (Malay and English Category) 2018, Malaysia National Public Speaking Competition (2018) and Pidato Piala Menteri Pendidikan (2018). IIUM has also received numerous awards in local and international Model United Nations (MUN) Conferences. The IIUM MUN members were awarded the Best Delegation at the Champions Cup, Nottingham MUN Conference 2017 and BAC MUN Conference 2018. They also participated in International MUN Conference such as the Singapore MUN 2018 where an IIUM MUN member received the Honorable Mention Award. IIUM Hult Prize Team achieved an amazing feat in the prestigious Hult Prize Competition in 2018. After being regional champion and competing against 42 teams in the UK, IIUM team was shortlisted as the Top 6 in the world and competed in the Grand Final in United Nation’s Headquarter in New York, together with University of Oxford and University College London (UCL), among others. IIUM has several campuses that spread across different states of Malaysia, each providing specific fields of study. The main campus in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur houses the university’s administration as well as the Kulliyyahs (Faculties) of Laws, Economics and Management Sciences, lslamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, Architecture and Environmental Design, Information and Communication Technology, Engineering and Education and IIUMAcademy of Graduate and Professional Studies. The campus offers a complete range of facilities including on-campus residential facilities and staff housing, the main masjid at its centre, two state-of-the-art sports complexes with olympic-size swimming pools, a fully equipped library with more than two million printed and digital materials supported by online databases, a medical clinic, convenience stores, a post office, three Malaysian commercial banks and a kindergarten. The other campuses are located in Kuantan, Kuala Lumpur, Gambang and Pagoh. All IIUM campuses are nestled within valleys surrounded by lush greenery. The landscape and scenic beauty of these campuses is another manifestation of our tagline, Garden of Knowledge and Virtue, where our campuses are designed to provide memorable and environmentally sustainable living experience for our staff and students. With a land area of 1,000 acres and surrounded by greenery, the Kuantan campus houses the Kulliyyahs of Medicine, Science, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Nursing and Dentistry and a big teaching hospital. The clean white beaches and other tourist destinations around Kuantan make this campus all the more desirable. Kuantan has another site, Jalan Hospital campus housing part of the Kulliyyah of Medicine. The Kuala Lumpur Campus at Persiaran Duta now houses the International Institute of Islamic Civilisation and Malay World (ISTAC). The Centre for Foundation Studies is now in Gambang in the state of Pahang. The population of IIUM students is 29,773 coming from 86 countries. To date IIUM has 91,267 alumni of which 78,188 are Malaysians and 13,079 International.
