Submission requirements

1. Contestants need to upload and share their entries on IIUM social media pages i.e;

2. tagged to Official IIUM accounts with the hashtag #IIUMSejahteraPhotoContest #Happiness2share

*Note: The best photo will be chosen by OCAP. The number of likes for your photo will not affect the outcome of the contest. We want to fill up our social media pages with your happy photos.
Just a friendly reminder: we can only see photos on public profiles.
This contest runs from 19th-23rd March 2021 and we will announce the winners by commenting on the winning photos!

Description

IIUM Happiness photo contest is open to IIUM community ONLY (staff & students). The contest invites photographers to send their pictures showcasing their happiness with their loved ones. Listed below are the criteria for the photo contest.

  • Original
  • Relevant to the theme
  • Quality of enjoyment
  • Quality of image / visual impact
  • Technical proficiency
  • Interesting caption

Entries submitted to the contest are then judged by an independent panel of experts who are recognised authorities in the area of photography.

How to Enter:

The social media contestants should include details as follow;
  • Name:
  • Matric / Staff No.
  • Kulliyyah/Campus:
  • Short description of happiness that is portrayed through the contestant's picture.

Entry Period:


Friday, 19th March 2021 (opens at 8:00 a.m. Malaysia standard time) to Tuesday, 23rd March 2021 (closes at 8:00 p.m. Malaysia standard time)

Eligibility:

Staff & students of the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Entry format:

Single photo. The contest accepts entries from any digital cameras, including smartphones, and action camera (GoPro).

Prizes:

1st Prize: RM300 + IIUM Tiffin carrier
2nd Prize: RM200 + IIUM Tiffin carrier
3rd Prize: RM100 + IIUM Tiffin carrier
5 Consolation Prizes: IIUM Tiffin carrier

Submission Rules:

Entry is limited to original works that have not formerly been displayed or exhibited and for which the entrant holds all applicable rights.

Works that have won prizes in other contests or that have been submitted to other contests currently underway, including similar works, are not eligible. Even works that are entered in other competitions after submission to this contest will be regarded as having been submitted to other contests currently underway.

Only ONE submission is allowed for each contestant.

Image data files created with any device capable of taking still images, including smartphones, and action camera (GoPro).

Images that have been retouched by using camera apps, photo editing apps, other software, etc. will be accepted.

Both colour and monochrome images will be accepted.

Selfies or wefies are accepted.

File size: up to 10 MB of image data per work. Image-data file format: JPEG/150 dpi recommended.

Contains NO WATERMARK on photos.
  • Public accounts on twitter/instagram or Post set to public audience on FB
  • Must tag Official IIUM accounts and include the following two hashtags #IIUMSejahteraPhotoContest #Happiness2share

Note: Winners might be asked to provide higher resolution images for publication or display purposes related to the contest.

Judging:

  • A compilation of all entries will be posted on IIUM website / social media pages (scheduled 23rd March 2021) during the evaluation by the OCAP's Team.
  • Contest results are scheduled to be announced on this website/ social media pages by 25th March 2021.

Notification of Winners:

  • After the judging concludes, the winners will be notified via email sent to their registered email addresses / social media pages comment by 23rd March 2021.

Note:
Winners are requested to access the URL in the award notification email sent by the IIUM Happiness Photo Contest organiser, and they must accept the terms and conditions and register by the specified date. Failure to do so might result in disqualification. Winners might also be contacted by telephone or other means if the IIUM Happiness Photo Contest organiser deems it necessary to confirm any of the information provided, etc.

Please note that failure to respond within 7 days of the date on which the IIUM Happiness Photo Contest organiser sends the award notification email will result in disqualification, regardless of whether this is due to a server malfunction or any other causes. Entrants should therefore notify the organiser of any changes to their email addresses and contact numbers through the email provided on the website/social pages. Neither the university nor the IIUM Happiness Photo Contest organiser will accept liability for any disadvantages that arise as a result of inability to receive email.

Disclaimers:

  • Entries and the persons depicted therein are restricted to works for which the entrant holds the copyright or for which the entrant has received the prior usage permission of the right holder.
  • Entrants are responsible for the resolution of any legal issues arising from their submitted works and agree to pay any costs thereby incurred.
  • The organiser reserves the right to disallow entries that depict brand logos or other intellectual property, whether on neon signs, posters, or in other forms, or that in its judgment are harmful to public order, violate standards of decency, or are contrary to the goals of the contest.
  • Entrants must hold all applicable rights to the final image, including any retouching or other image processing.
  • Entrants will not be notified of the receipt of their entries. Please note that the organiser will not respond to inquiries concerning their receipt.
  • Entrants must bear all costs incurred by entering the contest. Entering the contest constitutes agreement to the terms and conditions stated in these Entry Guidelines.
  • The organiser reserves the right of final judgment concerning items not expressly stated in these Entry Guidelines. Entrants who do not consent to the organizer's decisions may withdraw from the contest. All costs associated with withdrawal from the contest are to be borne by the entrant.
  • Once submitted, entries will not be returned to entrants under any circumstances, even if they are later withdrawn.
  • Please note that the organizer may elect to suspend or postpone receipt of any or all entries if in its judgment the contest cannot be run smoothly, securely, or without affecting the fairness of the judging due to circumstances beyond its control, including but not limited to network failure, computer viruses, or unauthorized access to its servers.
  • Please note that when a winning work is used for exhibitions and the like stated below, due to circumstances concerning printing or otherwise, the tone or expressed meaning may not be strictly reproduced according to the winner's intent.
  • Please note that no response will be given to any inquiries, complaints, or objections regarding the judges’ decisions.

Responsibility:

  • Although entries are handled with the greatest possible care, the organiser will not bear responsibility for accidents, damage, loss, or other problems that occur during data transfer.
  • he organiser will not bear responsibility for entrant damages, etc. arising from or related to circumstances beyond its control, including but not limited to network failure, computer viruses, or unauthorized access to its servers.
  • The organiser will not bear responsibility for damages or other harm suffered by entrants as a result of their participation in the contest.
  • Entrants are required to obtain the prior permission and consent of the persons who are portrayed in their works or who hold the copyright or other intellectual property rights to the works, or the items portrayed therein.
  • Entrants agree to fully indemnify the organiser and bear all responsibility for any third-party complaints or objections concerning copyright or other intellectual-property-right infringement or damages arising from submitted works.
  • The above limitations also apply to the responsibilities borne by the organiser as well as the judges and third parties participating in the contest in cooperation with the organiser.

Entrants' Rights:

  • Although entrants retain the copyright and other equivalent rights to their entries, the organiser retains the entry rights listed below under "Organiser's Rights".
    Organiser's Rights:
    1. The organiser reserves the right to publish entries to its public social networking service accounts throughout the submission period to publicise the contest.
    2. Such publication does not guarantee an award of any kind.
    3. The organiser reserves the right to publish all entries onto websites and social networking service accounts related to the contest after the judging. Some entries might be cropped for publication.
    4. With the objective of publicising the contest and enriching the general image-making culture, the organiser reserves in perpetuity the non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, make public, publicly transmit, display, print, distribute, and screen winning entries with the credit titles on websites and public social networking service accounts as well as in photo exhibitions, camera-related events, exhibitions, and the corresponding facilities managed or organised by the subsidiaries or affiliates of the International Islamic University Malaysia and local agents authorised by the organiser (collectively called the "organiser, etc.", a term that includes the organiser) without further compensation to or the additional prior consent of the entrants.
    5. The organiser, etc. will display the names of the entrants and the titles of the entries on contest-related websites and public social networking service accounts, at exhibitions, and in other locations where the works are shown.
    6. Entrants are requested to familiarise themselves with the "Privacy Notice".
    7. With the objective of accomplishing the goals outlined in the above clause, the organiser, etc. may:
      display the entries in whole or in part on websites or public social networking service accounts under its administration, with the addition of graphical effects, sound effects, or music,
      and
      employ the entries in whole or in part in the creation of posters, tickets, and pamphlets promoting photo exhibitions and other events. The entrants agree not to exercise moral rights to works so used.
    8. For objectives other than those stated above, upon agreement with the entrant or winner, the organiser reserves in perpetuity the non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, make public, publicly transmit, display, print, distribute, and screen entries or winning entries with labels indicating them as entries or winning entries of the contest and the credit titles, without further compensation.
    9. Entries that in the judgment of the organiser do not conform to these Entry Guidelines will be disqualified. Entrants will not be notified in this event.
    10. If a winner is found to be disqualified after a prize is awarded, the award might be revoked and the entrant requested to return the prize.
    11. These Entry Guidelines will be interpreted in accordance with the laws of Malaysia.
    12. Any disputes between entrants and the organiser will be referred to the IIUM Office of Legal Adviser as the office of first instance having exclusive jurisdiction.
